Australian War Memorial

Building a legacy for generations to come

An enduring symbol of Australia’s strength and resilience

The Australian War Memorial in Canberra stands as one of Australia’s most significant cultural institutions, honouring the history and legacy, service and sacrifice of the nation’s military. The centrepiece of the Australian Government’s $550 million redevelopment, the Anzac Hall and Anzac Atrium expand the War Memorial’s exhibition space and enhance the visitor experience.

Engaged by Lendlease, Apollo delivered a major architectural steel package, fabricating and installing approximately 720 tonnes of structural steel. Apollo’s scope included 17 exposed roof rafters for Anzac Hall, spanning up to 42 metres and configured to symbolise the rays of the Rising Sun; along with 25 fully expressed 32-metre bowstring steel trusses for the Anzac Atrium, which connects the new Anzac Hall to the heritage Main Building. With long-span steelwork, visible architectural finishes and complex façade interfaces, the project demanded precision, craftmanship and construction efficiency.

Apollo is honoured to have contributed to this landmark project.
